A new independent cafe in Ryde on the Isle of Wight promises to be ‘high quality’ and ‘food-led’.
BrewsandHops has lodged a premises licence application with the Isle of Wight Council for Pier View Brews at 2 Union Street in Ryde.
The premises were formerly occupied by ‘Craft’.
Proposed opening hours are between 07:00 and 22:00 from Monday to Sunday.
BrewsandHops’s application form says:
“The business will offer a variety of hot and cold beverages, including speciality coffee sourced from the outskirts of Winchester and loose-leaf teas based in the New Forest, alongside an extensive food menu featuring two handed deep filled sandwiches, house-made sweet pies and tray bakes catering to all dietary requirements.
“In the evenings (Friday and Saturday) the premises will offer a curated, bespoke experience featuring an exclusive selection of imported Belgium and German beers, locally sourced craft beer, cider and old-style bar tankard cocktails.
“To accompany these, we will be offering a wide variety of snack flights as well as savoury picky bits and evening tray bakes to keep in appearance with the cafe.”

The operation will be ‘strictly seated’, with full table service provided at all times, ensuring a ‘quiet, relaxed’ environment.
Steps to be taken to promote licencing objectives include the Challenge 25 scheme, a zero-tolerance policy regarding anti-social behaviour and controlled dispersal.
The application 26/00988/LAPNEW is open for consultation until Wednesday, 12th August.

I also detest that expression, along with their use of ‘beverages’ i.e. drinks, and the overused and pretentious ‘curated’. It’s a shabby little café, not Quaglino’s. At least it’s 2026 rather than 2022, or they would probably have a specially-curated collection of picky bits and beverages to celebrate ‘Platty Joobs’. Grrr…
I really don’t know why you guys are so anti. All these guys are trying to do is reach out to those who aren’t up for a cheeky Nandos and perhaps want to sit around and chew the fat while they swap life hacks or perhaps just need to unpack their day. Whilst doing so they can gorge on English tapas, picky bits and the odd chochy biccy and a cuppa.
Why not just let them throw it at the wall and see what sticks. Have you never had to suck it and see before?
