A sheep has been left injured in the latest dog attack at Carisbrooke Castle – prompting an impassioned plea for owners to keep their pets on leads.
The latest incident is understood to be the 4th dog attack in the space of just a year.
It comes only a week after another of her sheep had to be put to sleep as a result of horrific injuries sustained in a separate dog attack.
Now, those raising awareness of the attacks have declared ‘enough is enough’ and have called for dog owners using the area around Carisbrooke Castle to take greater responsibility.
Police are said to be involved and are investigating the attacks.
A plea issued following the latest incident said:
“This has gone far beyond simply asking people to be more responsible.
“If you are walking anywhere around Carisbrooke Castle, or anywhere livestock is present, put your dog on a lead.
Article continues below this advertisement “We don’t care if your dog has brilliant recall. We don’t care if they’re normally friendly. We don’t care if they’ve walked past sheep a hundred times before without reacting.
“It only takes one time.”
Dog owners are also being reminded that a dog does not have to physically attack a sheep to cause harm, with chasing or worrying livestock capable of causing serious distress and injury.
The plea continued:
“Four attacks in a year. One sheep already dead as a result. Another now injured. And a Police investigation underway.
“How many more animals have to suffer before people understand?
“Keep your dogs on leads around livestock. There really is no excuse.”

You will never educate thick uncaring dog owners ( not me)
Probably not fair to shoot the ill-disciplined dog, so shoot its owner who certainly knows better than to let the dog loose.
even though it is not the dogs fault the only way to stop this is having the dog put to sleep. Unffortunately it is the only lesson that scum owners will understand.
There is absolutely no excuse. Keep dogs on a lead in those fields
I hardly ever see dogs on leads on the countryside now, not even on the paths and lanes around d Carisbrooke.
And none of the dogs are under control, they dont return to owners when called. When a dog lept at me in this area, all I got was a load of abuse for suggesting they keep the dog on a lead.
There are frequently livestock in fields around Carisbrooke, and obviously deeper into the countryside. No dogs should be off leads in these areas.

Regularly get harassed by dogs whilst running..either owner seem classic chav and blames me for running with in 20 foot of their dog or owner so dippy and have no control over the animal..talk to it in a soppy soft voice ”don’t be a naughty girl/boy”
There really is no excuse. Dog owners should do as requested and keep their dogs on a lead.
Maybe clearer signage of where exactly the sheep are. Don’t blame ALL dogs and their owner’s.. animal’s are animal’s… No-one wants this to happen. Sheep should be in a private field; clearly signposted. Too many people in too little a space…
Take responsibility for your dog. Keep it on lead
Owners of Livestock have the right to shoot a dog on sight, if it is worrying or attacking their Animals. As for the Irresponsible Owners, they should be flogged.
Sadly even the nicest dogs are capable of such behaviour, which is why responsible owners keep their pets on leads around livestock, could you imagine the outcry if a farmer shot and killed a dog during such an attack?

Some people are sadly just ‘plain thick’ as its not usually the dogs fault, its the owner to blame. If possible, avoid fields with grazing livestock, if not keep the dog on a lead and don’t get to close to the animals, especially if they have young, also try and ignore them. Even a well behaved and friendly dog of any size could startle livestock. Taking these measures would minimise any chance of the dog attacking.

If Dogs are not on a lead around livestock, We had the right to shoot them. It soon made people realise they are on private land with certain rights. Its not just sheep that are lost, calfs have been lost on farms with dogs allowed to be let off the leads.
