An acclaimed arts writer and author will visit the Isle of Wight next month to discuss her newly released book exploring the history and significance of printmaking.
Holly EJ Black, author of The Story of Printmaking and Contributing Arts Editor at The World of Interiors, will appear in conversation with Island printmaker Ian Whitmore at Department in Ryde on Thursday 2nd July at 20:00.
The event has been organised by Brevity, The Isle of Wight’s Literary Handbill.
Anmarie Bowler, editor of Brevity, said:
“In this, the National Year of Reading, Brevity is delighted to present Holly, the writer of new non-fiction that beautifully reveals an artform many Islanders excel at.
“It’s a book that history buffs, artists and art lovers will enjoy reading.
“Brevity is so pleased to host an author, talking about her latest book, live and in person.”
Printed in Sandown and supported by Arts Council England and Creative Island, Brevity is published 6 times a year.
Department’s Programming Director, Joe Plumb, said:
*“At Department, we’re committed to creating opportunities that nurture and inspire local creative talent. We’re delighted to partner with Brevity to bring this event to the Island and to welcome one of the UK’s leading arts writers.
“We hope this event sparks new ideas, meaningful conversations and creative thinking among local artists, writers and readers.”*
From woodblock printing to etching, The Story of Printmaking explores how the medium has been used throughout history both as a tool for artistic experimentation and for sharing information.
In addition to her role at The World of Interiors, Holly has also written for The Art Newspaper, Art Review, House &Garden and Wallpaper.
Copies of The Story of Printmaking will be available to purchase at the event thanks to Medina Bookshop in Cowes.
