An historic Isle of Wight town centre property last used as part of an NHS surgery will be turned into a 4-bedroom house.
Planners have given Zen Transformations consent for a change of use of 29 Pyle Street in Newport, a Grade II-listed building from the early 19th century.
Zen Transformation’s agent, V&L Architects, previously said the building’s office use has been redundant for some time and the ability to secure an appropriate tenant is ‘non-viable’ with ‘today’s economy’.
Approved plans also include the infilling of internal doors through a party wall to a connected listed building next door, Chantry House, which dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, according to Historic England.
An Isle of Wight Council decision report said:
“29 Pyle Street is adjacent to Chantry House, 30 and 31 Pyle Street, and both have been in the same ownership and use as offices for a number of years.
“29 was constructed as a residential dwelling and the conversion would revert the building to its original use.”
Proposed residential use plans would not impact on the town centre’s vitality or neighbouring properties, the document said.
A total of conditions were attached to the permission to comply with legislation and planning policy, to improve the listed building’s appearance and for heritage preservation.

So , if the HMO with 15 bedrooms next door is agreed , who would buy this house.
