An eye-catching Newport building is being used to help raise awareness for Carewatch – a national care provider with a well-established Island team.
TheAgency building on Coppins Bridge is well known for its distinctive murals, featuring artwork that promotes local events and causes.
The Carewatch mural features a suitably Spring-like motif and asks Island residents ‘Does Someone You Care For Need a Helping Hand at Home?’. Carewatch provide a range of support services to the Isle of Wight community, helping those who struggle to cope at home due to advanced age, disability or illness.
The Isle of Wight has a high proportion of older people than the rest of the UK and many residents have a caring responsibility for their loved ones. The 2011 Census showed 16,420 Islanders provided care on a weekly basis. It is hoped that the colourful artwork will prompt Isle of Wight residents to pick up the phone and call Carewatch if they feel someone close to them needs support in their home.
Carewatch manager, Claire Martin, said:
“We are conscious that the building is situated at the heart of the Island and is seen by many passing by. We hope that the mural will encourage people to ask for help where it is needed. The Island has a fantastic supportive, close-knit community but unfortunately many in need rely on others to ask for help on their behalf – and many informal carers also need a break at times.
“The Carewatch team is dedicated to helping Island residents through personal and practical care, which is specialised to suit the particular needs of each individual we work with. We hope Island residents will reach out to us if they need help, by calling our friendly team on 01983 530981 or via the website www.carewatch.co.uk“.
