Fairyland Fairytales, an anthology of fairy stories written by local children and visitors alike, has just been published by Island publisher Beachy Books.
The book was commissioned by Patricia Whybrow of Shanklin’s iconic Old Thatch Teashop and its magical fairy garden that inspired the book.
Mrs Whybrow said:
“I wanted to create a book of fairy stories written by children who visited my teashop, where all the proceeds could go to a charity very close to my heart called Children with Cancer UK.
“I searched online and when I saw the name Beachy Books I just loved the name and knew that they would publish my book! When I met Philip Bell I was not disappointed. He helpfully worked with me from initial ideas to finished book, explaining all the processes as we went.
“He had a great idea to use old fairy art which looked fabulous mixed with the children’s stories. I’m very grateful for his help in getting this worthwhile book published!”
Philip was very impressed with the quality of writing from the children. He said:
“It was difficult knowing what stories to publish but in the end they were all so great we put them all in the book!
“Pat really wanted something special and she encouraged me to come up with a unique design. She likes the classic old fairy illustrators, which look great with the children’s stories. I think the overall effect is really special and all adds to the magical atmosphere of the book”.
Fairyland Fairytales is full colour with over 65 pages of stories from the youngest writer of 3 years up to 13, with some stories having been written by whole families. The book would
make great bedtime reading material and is also suitable for children to read themselves and be inspired to write their own fairytales.
Fairyland Fairytales is priced at £10 and is available at Old Thatch Teashop in Old Shanklin Village and via their website https://www.oldthatchteashop.co.uk/fairy-book.php.
