A plethora of emergency services – including an air ambulance – have descended on a residential street in Sandown this evening (Thursday) in response to a serious medical emergency, with cordons now in place.
It was at around 18:35 that the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service received a 999 call reporting a Category 1 medical emergency at an address on Downsview, off Perowne Way.
The significance of the situation led to the immediate mobilisation of a fire engine from Shanklin, on a medical response, alongside 2 ambulances and a critical care paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
At the same time, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) was scrambled from its base at Southampton Airport, taking just minutes to fly across the Solent and the Isle of Wight to touch down on open land off Perowne Way.
The patient has now been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance, accompanied by specialist flying medics from HIOWAA.
Efforts are underway to stablise the individual, with a view to potentially transferring them to a mainland hospital.
Police remain on scene at Downsview with a cordon in place around a number of properties.
