Work on Medina Healthcare’s new surgery at Riverway House in Newport is now complete, bringing modern new GP facilities a step closer to opening.
The former NatWest building has been refurbished to provide new consultation and treatment rooms, dedicated facilities for services including blood tests, and improved working spaces for the island-based Medina Healthcare team.
The new surgery is an important investment in the future of local GP services and will give Medina Healthcare more flexibility in how care and appointments are provided across its locations.
The team has been making the final practical preparations needed before the building can welcome patients. Riverway House opened to patients yesterday, Monday 12th October. This means people can now book an appointment at either Wootton Bridge or the new Riverway House surgery.
Wootton Bridge surgery remains open and appointments continue as usual. The building will need remedial work in the future, which is expected to require a temporary closure for a period of time. No date has been agreed and patients, staff and local stakeholders will be given plenty of notice before anything changes.
There is no action patients need to take at this stage and they will remain registered with Medina Healthcare.
Dr Christine French, a Medina Healthcare GP, said:
“This is a really positive development for Medina Healthcare and an important investment in GP services on the Island.
“Riverway House will provide modern facilities for patients, car parking and a much-improved working environment for our hard-working staff. It will also give the team more flexibility in how we provide care across our two locations, with the ability to increase our face-to-face appointments. We are excited to be able to offer appointments in Newport again, giving patients more choice about where they receive their care.
“A great deal of work has gone into transforming the building and we are now focused on making sure everything is ready before we open the doors to patients.”
Patients have been updated with information about how appointments work, travel and parking, accessibility and what they need to know before attending the new surgery.
Riverway House will support Medina Healthcare to provide high-quality, sustainable care from modern facilities while improving the experience of both patients and the colleagues who care for them.
