Ryde Town Council is stepping up efforts to combat the growing issue of dog fouling in and around the town with a humorous poster that carries a serious message. Recent observations have shown an alarming increase in instances of dog fouling on the streets, in parks and on footpaths in Ryde. So the Town Council is calling upon all residents to join efforts to maintain a clean and pleasant environment in Ryde by responsibly disposing of pet waste, ensuring that everyone can enjoy local public spaces. The Isle of Wight Council’s Environment Officers will be conducting regular patrols to identify and address incidents of dog fouling, with pet owners reminded that failing to clean up after your dog is not only inconsiderate but also illegal. Offenders may face stringent penalties, including a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice issued on the spot by Enforcement Officers. In severe cases, fines of up to £1,000 may be imposed upon prosecution. A new poster has been designed to remind pet owners of their responsibility. It reads “Dogs are great, but does your dog do this” – with an image of a dog using a dustpan and brush to sweep up its own mess. It continues “I didn’t think so… so please pick up after your dog or you are liable for a fine up to £1,000”. You can report dog fouling to be cleared via the Island Roads website at https://fms.islandroads.com/.

It’s also about time they banned single use plastic poo bags and only sell the compostable type. But not before another law is passed to stop the money grubbers hiking the price up.
As far as I’m aware, all poo bags these days are biodegradable. The ones I buy certainly are.
Big fuss over nothing. There’s is only meat, like ours is only dinner.
Dog mess,Litter and Cigarette buts left on public area’s are all anti social and all should be fined
A lot of litter is left by our wonderful binmen who manage to get a good amount onto the roafs at collection time!
Its a shame we can’t put a £1000 penalty for every pot hot the council won’t get fixed
Waste of money that would be better spent with feet on the ground
This needs to be done in every town, people who can’t or just won’t pick up the mess make me sick. Ventnor has one particular very smelly person who won’t clean up after his dogs and when confronted lies and says he already has done it, when clearly to all around him he hasn’t. I expect he will also cry out anxiety or some such mental health drivel.
What’s the use of these posters ? The offenders are ignorant morons anyway so they won’t take any notice of them. Another waste of money !
And spitting out chewing gum
Dogs shouldn’t be given chewing gum, it’s toxic to them.
Somehow, I doubt the perpetrators will take heed.
Signs all down my road. Obviously too high for the dogs to read.
Do Biodegradable bags actually break down? I doubt it.
Where have you been? Biodegradable bags break down BIOlogically in a short period of time in the ground, along with the poo. Problem solved… Or more accurately… dis-solved… 🙂 Though it’s probably true during fermentation it produces a small amount of methane which will eventually surface. But this topic will be further discussed in 2055 when no doubt the Island Echo will report that ‘LYNNBOTTOM TIP CLOSED BY POLICE DUE TO UNEXPLAINED GAS EXPOLSIONS’… And the blame will go back to dog owners once again… He he! Stay tuned… 🙂
Total waste of time and money. What is needed is enforcement of the current laws. How many people have been fined for dog fouling on the island in, say, the past twenty years? Zero, that’s how many.
Totally agree with you Paul. Last season I spoke with the enforcement officer about this issue and asked them exactly how many dog owners have actually been fined? The answer was “I don’t recall any “ from the actual person who is authorised by law to issue fines! Do what I do, take a good photo of the person who is breaking the law and compile a photo gallery of the offenders then give it to the local parish council and iow council and then let them take action of an official warning to them. Most of the people who are offenders are known and their addresses are known to.
More chance of the Floating Bridge running than them
fining a dog owner.
Hard to fine someone when the staff are working from home or sat in a call centre fending off calls to the people in offices.
Another load of b@ll@cks
If I had a pound everytime a dog owner did lot clear up their
Dogs sh it, I would be a millionaire
Lock the B’stards up who don’t clear up the sh it
At least humans put there’s in the sea
* theirs* ( sigh).
Well come for a walk around my area in Newport and see the dog poo on the paths and hung on tree branches.
We are not all dog lovers and just want a nice walk in the country without the smell and filth you dog owners leave all over the place because you are to lazy to clean up.
And no we don’t all love it when your dog bounds up to us with snot and dribble all over their faces and stuffed into our crutch or over our legs.
Just sick of the lot of you.
I thought you were talking about County Hall
Biggest pile of sh*t on the Island.
This poster won’t stop those who don’t pick up their sh#t, they will just laugh at the lame attempt.
In Amsterdam, dog owners have to have their dogs on a DNA register a d if the don’t pick it up, they trace it back to owner.
Now wouldn’t that be a good idea.
My dog is currently unemployed. Good luck getting £1000 from him.
WHY DONT WE CATCH REAL CRIMINALS
Great stuff… But if I do manage train Rocky to sweep up after himself, how’s he meant to reach the red poo bins that are set at human height? 🙁
