More than 18,000 Islanders who have registered for postal votes will see their ballots for the forthcoming Police & Crime Commissioner election arrive in their letterbox over the next few days. Most postal votes are returned via Royal Mail, but they can also be handed in at County Hall during office hours or to any polling station on election day (Thursday 2nd May). However, rules on who can handle postal votes have now changed. Voters will be only able to hand in their own postal vote, and the postal votes of up to 5 other people, at a polling station (or County Hall). Campaigners can only hand in their own postal vote, and postal votes for up to 5 other people that are either close relatives, or someone they provide regular care for. All individuals handing in postal votes to local authority offices or polling stations will need to complete a postal vote return form. There are currently more than 18,000 postal voters on the Isle of Wight out of a total electorate of 110,725.

I can’t be bothered to vote for this nonsense, we don’t need the post of PCC anyway just abolish it. How much is this farce costing us?
I wouldn’t vote if they paid me too, they are a waste of time and money
Far too much unfortunately.
I totally agree with you, they will never say how much this farce cost .All I know is it’s a waste of our money.!!!!
So in person voters have to prove they are with DI who they are but by post voters do not? How many old people are getting their votes stolen? And which party benefits from by post votes? The Tories which is why they did not clamp down on mail voting fraud but did change the rules for in person voting to fight an imagined voter fraud. This is the thin edge of the wedge, Tories are conducting voter suppression, just like they did in the 80’s with the poll tax. The right wing love to prevent people from voting, but only the ones that vote against them.
Tower Hamlets?
Completely true. The Tory idea of voter ID was ‘to prevent potential voter fraud in our electoral system.’ Makes it sound like it was a thing, doesn’t it? Except that only 9 people have ever been arrested for voter fraud and in only 1 case was it because of impersonation. Nowhere is there legislation to protect against postal voter fraud, used by mainly elderly. Think how easy it is to simply apply for all residents of say a care home and post them all back with one person’s political persuasions. Or for those with power of attorney.
None of this was necessary before OUR country was filled with those who ought not be here.
Every day they arrive, breaking the law by just breaking in to our country.
So it takes little imagination that for them to have no qualms about doing so, these people would otherwise vote for the hand that is going to provide the largest filled begging bowl
So it won’t be Mrs Smith, or old Mr Green you have to concern yourself about.
See the real reason why security here, at airports etc is so tight, and rarely will it be a true Brit with ancestors of more than five mins.
Illegal immigrants wouldn’t be on the electoral roll you plum! PLEASE engage brain before attempting a xenophobic rant or risk looking even more stupid. And even if they did, you’re expecting them to have an in-depth knowledge of our political parties ethos? Mind you, they probably do have a better handle on it than you seem to.
