FYT bus, a charity organisation in the West Wight, held the public launch of its brand new buses and passenger timetables for its local community services yesterday (Thursday).
The Island’s High Sheriff, Robin Courage MBE attended the launch, which allowed the local community to get up close and personal with the new vehicles and ask local volunteers about the services that FYT bus offers. Pupils from All Saints CofE Primary School attended with their teachers.
The community bus service has been operating for 4 years through the bringing together of local volunteers and grants obtained from the Lottery Fund. Over this period FYT bus has carried in excess of 65,000 passengers. Initially, FYT bus was started with local Parish Councils finance from Freshwater, Yarmouth, Totland and Shalfleet. The initials were used to name the bus service.
At the launch, 2 new buses to replace the existing 8-year-old vehicles were unveiled. Delivery of the buses occurred a few weeks ago, but since then small modifications have been made and signage added to suit FYT bus operations. The new buses are 14 seat capacity as before, have cleaner engines and will offer passengers a more comfortable ride on improved journeys in the West Wight.
The head of the FYT bus management group, Peter Dalby has said:
“The new buses and timetables show our commitment to offer high quality service to our customers now and in the future. The support from our local community has been reflected by the Community Action Award given to us in 2015″.
