Bembridge Parish Council has restored the provision of an emergency telephone at Whitecliff Bay. The brand-new, all-weather phone has been installed near the steps to provide a direct line of contact with the emergency services, should assistance be needed. Mobile phone signal can be patchy along this stretch of coast and recent incidents have proven that the area between Bembridge and Culver Down is hazardous. 2 women had to be rescued from the mud – in separate incidents – at Whitecliff Bay in March. It’s said that Bembridge Parish Council is in the process of consulting with nearby landowners to improve safety signage, warning people of the potential dangers in this coastal area.
NEW EMERGENCY PHONE INSTALLED AT WHITECLIFF BAY THANKS TO PARISH COUNCIL

Thank you Bembridge Parish Council for suppling and fitting this life-line helping to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors alike.
Sadly as more of our cliffs crumble and turn into treacherous ooze and mobile coverage is sketchy, then this phone provides assurance that help is available to those in need.
It is located very near to the ‘Wonky Cafe’ at the bottom of the steep slope from Sandhills Camping and holiday resort. Thought I would make such clear as there are two cafes close together on the short stretch and it is the one nearest Culver Cliff.
The wonderful photograph shows what a beautiful location this is.
Get a life you sad muppet. You can’t stop Mother Nature.
A beautiful area, more so when dry, I take my dog their most days. A very exposed area with currently, as much of the Island, experiencing more than usual cliff falls and mud slides.
So great to know the phone has been replaced.
Handy for those self cemented into the foreshore, or to warn the authorities of stray joints of meat for dogs to roll upon, rusty parts of engines deemed to be ordinance or, thankfully less likely, flotillas of expensive flotsam or drugs.
Thanks Bembridge and the guys carrying out the work in not always so kind conditions.
Who you gonna call – Ghostbusters!!??
Yes, I agree, it is a beautiful location. Visiting the area and ‘just b’ accompanied by dogs is a joy.
Very important to have this phone fully functional, as I understand that the wonky cafe is unlikely to open this year?
If so with poor mobile reception and an extremely steep hike to raise the alarm for those in need, then a very wise move by our local council.
Lucky it weren’t the main council fitting that phone. They would likely make it a pay phone. Thank goodness we have parish councils who do get things done and care at a more local level than those bloated creatures in Newport, who only care about themselves.
Much needed especially after all the jabs
What a waste of money, I don’t know anyone who does not carry a phone today. Public phones are a 20th century facility.
And if there is no mobile phone signal ????
