Sunflower sales at the Isle of Wight Festival 2016 have proved a huge success, with great demand from festival-goers for the iconic Earl Mountbatten Hospice emblem.
The sunflowers have also gained collector status with regular supporters clamouring to get their hands on the latest dated flower, which is launched each year at the Isle of Wight Festival.
Over the course of the weekend, 60,000 festival goers basked in the Isle of Wight sunshine and enjoyed some incredible live performances including The Who, Stereophonics, Queen and Adam Lambert, and Faithless.
The occasional shower led to a boost in demand for the popular Hospice sunflower umbrellas, which were a sell-out hit amongst those wanting shelter from both showers and sunshine.
New for 2016 were branded wristbands, which offered an alternative way to donate any loose change in support of patient and family care at the Hospice.
Thanks to the support of festival goers, this year the Earl Mountbatten Hospice raised a tremendous £14,896, which will go directly towards the £7m that’s needed to run the Hospice and its services in the community each year.
Dani Johnson, Community Events Fundraiser, said:
“Thank you to our amazing team of volunteers and all of our supporters. It was a wonderful event with a fabulous atmosphere and great to see so many sunflowers dotted around the site. Many thanks indeed to the festival organisers and staff for being so helpful and supportive of our cause. Your contribution makes a big difference to our fundraising efforts during the event.”
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive at Earl Mountbatten, said:
“Well done to all those who were involved in this highly successful event, which is a fantastic chance to highlight the work we do to the festival community. We are so lucky to have such an extraordinary opportunity right on our doorstep and we are indebted to the organisers for supporting the future of patient and family care on the Island.”
