Ryde Saints have announced James Williams as their new 1st team manager for the forthcoming 2023/24 season.
The Saints 1st team have had a difficult season in Division 1 – having lost all 24 games they have played – and the new manager will take charge of the team in Division 2 next season.
Unfortunately, the Smallbrook-based side’s 2 recent fixtures against Whitecroft & Barton Sports and Shanklin have been awarded as walkovers to their opponents as they have been unable to raise a side.
However, Saints are hoping James can turn the club’s fortunes around next season.
Ryde Saints have written:
“As previously mentioned, interim 1st team managers Jordan Smith and Steve Deakin will be handing over the reigns as 1st team managers upon completion of this season. We again thank them for their tireless work this season.
“It is a great pleasure to announce – after interviewing and considering 3 fantastic candidates – our new first team manager will be James Williams
“James’ last role was with Osbourne Coburg’s 1st team, and he brings to Ryde Saints a vast array of football knowledge and experience, and knowledge and experience of Island football in particular. He will be assisted by Trevor Rowsell, who again has a wealthy knowledge of all things football and Island football.
“We are all excited about James’ appointment, and plans are already being put in place to ensure the club become competitive in Division 2 next season, and also Combination 2 with our reserves.
“Andy O’Brien will remain as reserve team manager after steering the team through a tough at times Combination 2 season, picking up some memorable wins along to way and giving a platform for our young players to play and enjoy football.
“Andy will be assisted once again by Kevin Nunn, who has helped transition his U16 youth team from 2021-22 into adult senior players last season.”
