The annual booklet of reuse, recycling and binformation is due to arrive by early May to keep you on top of your bin days and maximise your recycling.
The move follows confirmation that bin stickers will be provided to place on wheelie bins as part of an image rebrand, as first reported by Island Echo.
Natasha Dix, the council’s strategic manager for environment, said:
“We are already an Island of recyclers. Thank you for continuing to support the reduce, reuse and recycle sustainability message. Don’t forget, if you are having difficulty with your recycling and waste or want to know how you can recycle more, just get in touch and we will do all we can to help you.”
Keep your eye out for your handy guide which contains full details on waste collections for your area, including:
- the coming 12 months’ recycling and waste calendar (which includes bank holidays and schools holidays) to keep for easy reference;
- guides on what types of items should go in what waste bin/sack;
- reminders about both the battery and textiles kerbside collection service;
- how to book free and paid for additional services, such as re-use collections and Collection Plus
- details on the Island’s household waste recycling centres, and guidance for businesses and holiday let owners requiring commercial waste collections.
Any households that do not receive a booklet by the start of May are advised to contact the council’s recycling and waste team by emailing [email protected] or by calling (01983) 823777 to request a copy. The booklets will arrive in an envelope marked with the Isle of Wight Council logo and will clearly state it contains important information about waste services – please keep a look out.
Alternative versions of the booklets, including large print, text only, black, and white and braille can be provided on request using the contact details above. The booklet is also available in different languages. These can be requested by emailing [email protected] or by calling (01983) 823777.

Hi Natasha – maybe you can answer why my son and his partner, in a 4 bedroom house paying a huge amount of council tax to you people, are only allowed a half size refuse bin to be collected every fortnight ? Maybe as you are only collecting a half size waste bin and therefore supplying half the service, you can kindly refund them half their council tax contributions ?
Agreed, Council Tax should reflect numbers of adults, not size or location of home,we have single elderly living in what was family home paying double council tax (even with 25% discount)than four – ten living in town house. Why do country livers have to pay for late night street cleaning of drunks from town club’s/pub’s? Should be these venues that pay. Like education we all pay regardless of having or had children, should be parents responsibility – don’t have kids if can’t afford them!.
Yes indeed. Otherwise known as the poll tax. That went down well last time. Council tax certainly needs reforming. Bands A and B need a reduction while the other bands are increased. The current position has lower value property paying over the odds. The introduction of additional bands will also take in those with million pound houses. These people currently only pay for half the value of their houses. Council tax is a property tax after all. As for the other stuff it’s called society. Without it the elderly would undoubtedly be worse off. Children are tomorrow’s citizens. I’m pretty certain society coughed up something for you when you were a child. Next.
Bad enough having bins littering the streets now they are going to be plastered with stickers, what a mess but don’t even think of changing a door in a conservation area.
I’m looking forward to the rebranding. How exciting!
More of our money being wasted !!!! A bin is a bin ,what difference does a sticker make ?????
Rebranding ….lol….
Think most people would rather you knock a few quid off our council tax mmmmm…..
So true.
What a complete waste of tax payers money.
A Council Tax refund would be ideal.
More rubbish to throw in the bin
So does this mean if we don’t put the stickers on the bin they wont be collected. ?
Why didn’t they send the booklet out earlier, we have three BH’s in May and the post is struggling to get sorted and through in some areas. If the bins were old and damaged I could accept the change but just to put a label over the front is a waste of tax payers money, I am sure there are more important areas on the Island that need the extra cash – far too many to mention. We are an Island after all not rocket science for someone to figure out we use black or green bins.
“BINFORMATION TO BE A BINFLUENCER”if that was that an attempt to be funny/witty/clever,… it failed 🙁
as the saying goes,.. “don’t give up the day job”…
