Dignity Funerals, the parent company of Newport’s long-standing Hamilton and Marshall funeral directors, has announced the closure of the funeral home.
The news comes as Dignity Funerals undergoes a major restructuring of its Isle of Wight operations, which will see the Hamilton & Marshall name become the umbrella brand for the company’s Island operations.
The Sandown branch will operate as Hamilton & Marshall incorporating Downer & White, while the Ventnor branch will become Hamilton & Marshall incorporating Henry Ingram & Sons.
At ‘At Home’ service will see Hamilton & Marshall deliver its services and make funeral arrangements across the whole Isle of Wight by visiting families in their own homes.
The Downer & White and Henry Ingram & Sons brands are being retained because of their ‘longstanding local identities’.
Staff were informed of the decision to close the Newport parlour, located beside the dual carriageway on the site of the former railway station, last week.
Louise Nicholls, Business Manager for Dignity’s Isle of Wight operation, has said:
“A full and proper consultation process has been carried out with our team, in line with our obligations and our values as an employer.
“Our people have been treated with the care and respect they deserve throughout and I would not have it any other way.”
Families with existing funeral plans will continue to receive uninterrupted support, it has been confirmed.
