The main road to Niton is blocked this lunchtime (Thursday) following a single vehicle road traffic collision in which a car has collided with a tree.
Police and paramedics are on scene on Newport Road following a collision which occurred shortly after 12:00.
At the scene an MG attempting to overtake a cyclist has collided with a tree leaving the vehicle, believed to be a courtesy vehicle, side-on across the carriageway.
The collision has occured half-way between Southford Lane and Kingates Lane in the rural hamlet of Bierley.
As a result, Newport Road is currently partially blocked with motorists advised to avoid the area for the time being. Traffic is able to pass the crash scene albeit under Police direction.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have been approached for comment.
UPDATE @ 13:30 – Police have confirmed that no injuries have been reported.

Not surprised at this. Lunatic drivers travel from Niton, bomb along this road, but ignore the possibility that traffic will be trying to exit from Kingates and or Southford lanes.
that’s got literally nothing to do with the fact that this driver, operating a courtesy vehicle so probably already crashed once, tried overtaking a cyclist on a blind bend, and hit a tree of all things! This persons license should be revoked because clearly they can’t drive safely
