The first event in the brand-new Isle of Wight Grand Prix darts series will take place later this month, with professional darts player Keegan Brown inviting competitors of all ages and abilities to battle it out for ranking points, prize money and a place at December’s Finals Day.
The inaugural Isle of Wight Grand Prix will be held at the Ambassador Freehouse in Gunville on Sunday 26th July, marking the opening event of a 6-tournament series that will run through to December.
With a £300 prize fund, players will compete in a round-robin format before the knockout stages begin from the Last 16. Entry costs £10, with registration closing at 11:45 ahead of a 12:00 start.
The series has been created by professional player Keegan Brown, who says the competition is designed to give Island players regular competitive opportunities while encouraging the development of the next generation of darts talent.
Players will earn ranking points throughout the series, with the top 28 progressing to Finals Day on 6th December.
The Ambassador Freehouse has added £1,000 to the Finals Day prize fund, while every entry fee collected across the qualifying events will also be added to the final prize pot, creating one of the biggest grassroots darts finales seen on the Isle of Wight.
Special prizes will also be awarded to the Top 3 Under-21 players who do not qualify for Finals Day, thanks to the support of Luke Hawkins of Retro Hobby & Games and Kenny Adams of Kenny & Sons.
The Isle of Wight Grand Prix has received backing from a number of local businesses and organisations, including the Ambassador Freehouse, Island Echo, Seabrook Roofing, Ian’s Gas, Modern Landscapes, Kenny & Sons, Vistavis and Retro Hobby & Games.
Spaces are limited to 40 players and competitors are encouraged to register in advance through Darts Atlas, although on-the-day entries will be accepted if places remain available.
