Wight Tri’s Summer series continued at Yaverland on Friday evening (10th July), with members taking on a sea swim followed by a bike ride in warm conditions.
Competitors tackled either a 200m or 400m sea swim before heading out on a 10.5km or 20.5km cycle to Bembridge and back.
The warm weather made for some lively pre-race wetsuit struggles before athletes took to the water, where strong swims and slick transitions set the tone for the undulating bike leg.
Paula Griffiths was the first finisher in the Long Swim/Short Bike category, completing her debut Aquabike.
In the Long Swim/Long Bike event, Craig Wilson claimed victory in a time of 47:50, ahead of Trevor McAlister (51:47).
There was a thrilling battle for 3rd place, with Paul Taylor (54:43), Arielle Elton-Waters (54:44), Steve Snary (54:46) and Lucy Doorly (54:50) separated by just 7 seconds.
Lucy Doorly also took home the nominated time award, finishing just 10 seconds away from the target time.
Wight Tri has thanked Yaverland Sailing Club for hosting the event, as well as volunteers Neil Cooper, Anne and Steve Dines, Martin Goodall and Kev Downer for their support.
The club’s summer series continues with the Gurnard/Cowes Aquathon in 2 weeks’ time.
