A major fire at a scrapyard on the outskirts of Ryde is being tackled by firefighters this morning (Wednesday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service crews are on scene off Smallbrook Lane.
Island Echo understands that several shipping containers are alight.
Thick plumes of jet-black smoke were seen filling the sky at around 09:45. Residents in the surrounding area are being urged to keep their windows closed whilst the incident is dealt with.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for a statement.

Pumping appliances from Newport, Ryde and Shanklin and a water carrier from Ventnor are on scene.
UPDATE @ 10:30 – Firefighters have surrounded the blaze using hose reel jets and are working to stop the blaze spreading further.
UPDATE @ 11:14 – Smallbrook Lane is currently closed one-way to traffic heading toward Great Preston Road.
UPDATE @ 11:42 – Crews remain on scene damping down after grabbing hold of the fire.
