A Newport man who stole more than £400 worth of DVDs from Asda whilst already subject to a community order for previous offending has been sentenced at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court.
Luke Edgington, of West Street in Newport, admitted a pair of shoplifting offences when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this month (9th October).
Court heard how Edgington entered Asda in Newport on the 9th and 20th June and stole DVDs.
Edgington placed several DVDs into a basket before heading to a security deadspot and transferring them into an orange rucksack.
The total value of the goods, which weren’t recovered on either occasion, was £413.28.
Crown Prosecutor Serena Edwards, told the court that Edgington was subject to a community order at the time of the offending and that he was last in court back in February for similar offences.
Defending his client, Nick Muir, said that Edgington had been “engaging well” with probation since May and that at the time of the offending he was experiencing issue with his personal independence payments.
Magistrates added a further 12-month community order to Edgington’s existing order. He was also ordered to pay compensation for £413.28 to Asda.
