A Ryde man who turned to alcohol following a family bereavement has been banned from a community hub after assaulting 2 people during a drunken outburst that lasted around 30 minutes.
Christopher Allen, 54, of Nelson Street in Ryde, admitted 2 counts of assault by beating and 1 count of using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (13th October).
Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the court that Allen became verbally abusive towards staff and customers both inside and outside Aspire Ryde Community Hub on High Street on 29th August.
Allen, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time, pushed a woman on the shoulder before those inside the building locked him outside.
Once outside, Allen became involved in an altercation with a man who was attempting to calm him down.
The court heard that Allen, in an angered state, punched the man in the torso during the incident, which lasted around 30 minutes.
Allen had previously appeared before the courts in August, when he was sentenced for a public order offence.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick explained that his client had been ‘using and abusing’ alcohol following a family bereavement.
He added that Allen had been a regular visitor to the community hub before the incident and was grateful to staff for the help they had provided him.
The court heard that Allen was ‘sorry’ for his behaviour.
Magistrates adjourned the case until Friday (11th December), when Allen will return to court for sentencing following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
Allen remains banned from visiting or using Aspire Ryde Community Hub.
