Vectis RFC’s Under-13s produced a dominant performance to secure a 9-2 victory over Fawley RFC in the preliminary round of the Hampshire Cup, while the club’s Under-11s celebrated 7 wins at the Worthing Festival.
The Under-13s made a flying start to their away fixture, racing into a 4-try lead inside the opening 10 minutes.
An impressive display from the forwards provided the platform for some excellent attacking rugby, with George W completing a first-half hat-trick.
Isaac B crossed twice, while Jacob S, Finn S, Daniel R and Brodie G also scored. One of the highlights saw Albert B deliver a perfectly weighted cross-kick for Daniel R to finish in the corner.
Rufus K was named Back of the Match for his defensive efforts, while Jacob S earned Forward of the Match honours for his rucking and carrying.
Coach Steve Dixon has said:
“This was a hugely improved performance compared to our friendly against Eastleigh two weeks ago. Tackling and defence were far better.”
Meanwhile, the Under-11s enjoyed an equally impressive outing at the Worthing Festival, recording 7 wins, 1 draw and just 2 defeats across 10 matches.
The club entered 2 squads, Vectis Thunderbus and Vectis Legion of Boom, facing opposition from Worthing, East Grinstead, Midhurst, Hastings and Bexhill, Edenbridge and Steyning.
Owen was named Player of the Festival for Thunderbus following some powerful tackling and attacking runs, while Reggie received the same honour for Legion of Boom after impressing with his ball carrying and breakdown work.
Coach Allan Bridges has said:
“This was a no-holds-barred banger of a festival. I’m incredibly proud that both of our teams came away with winning records. Amazing effort!”
The Under-10s also competed at Worthing, securing wins or draws in the majority of their fixtures against Shoreham, Brighton, Heathfield & Waldron and 2 Worthing squads.
Their only defeat came against Brighton, with coaches praising improved tackling and counter-rucking. Baxter was named Player of the Day, while Ben Healey and Milo were recognised for their leadership.
Elsewhere, the Vectis Colts suffered a 25-10 defeat away at Fordingbridge despite producing some encouraging passages of play.
