Families and community organisations are being invited to explore the newly refurbished Cowes Family Centre when it opens its doors for a special event next week.
The centre, located on Love Lane in Cowes, will welcome visitors on Tuesday 20th October following a programme of improvements to its facilities.
The open day will give local families and professionals the opportunity to tour the refreshed building, meet the Family Centre team and learn more about the services and support available.
The event will be divided into 2 sessions, with families invited along between 10:00 and 12:00. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10:30.
During the morning session, visitors will be able to take part in activities, explore the updated facilities and discover the range of events, activities and support offered through the Island’s Family Hub and Centre network.
Although Family Centres are often associated with babies and younger children, their services extend to children and young people aged up to 19, and in some circumstances up to 25.
The centres provide information, advice and practical support to families throughout the different stages of a child’s development.
A second session, running from 13:00 to 15:00, will be aimed at professionals and community organisations.
As well as meeting staff and learning more about the services available, organisations delivering activities for children, young people and families will be able to discuss opportunities to use rooms within the centre free of charge.
Councillor Andrew Garratt, Vice Chair of the Isle of Wight Council’s Children’s Services, Education and Skills Committee, has welcomed the improvements.
He said:
“I am delighted to see all the hard work in refreshing Cowes Family Centre come to fruition. This marks an exciting milestone for the local community and reinforces the Family Centre commitment to bringing together services, support and activities that help children, young people and families thrive.
“We would love to see as many families, community groups and professionals attend the sessions and discover everything the Family Centres network has to offer.”
Anyone interested in attending can simply visit the centre during the relevant session on Tuesday 20th October.
Further information about the services available can be obtained through the Isle of Wight’s Family Information Centre and Best Start Family Centres.
