A 26-year-old who crashed into a parked car in Sandown after getting behind the wheel while over the drink-drive limit has been banned from driving for 14 months.
Jagroop Singh, of Selworthy Road in Coventry, pleaded guilty to a single charge of drink driving when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court earlier today (Tuesday).
Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the court that Police were called to a road traffic collision on Broadway in Sandown at around 23:45 on 29th August, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Officers arrived to find that a black Audi A6 had collided with a parked Nissan Micra, leaving both vehicles damaged.
Singh admitted to officers at the scene that he had been behind the wheel of the Audi when the collision occurred.
However, officers soon suspected that the 26-year-old had been drinking after noticing his glazed eyes and slurred speech.
A roadside breath test returned a positive result, leading to Singh’s arrest. He was subsequently taken to Newport Police Station.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick told magistrates that his client had not intended to drive that evening but had decided to get behind the wheel because he felt ‘okay’ to do so.
Magistrates disqualified Singh from driving for 14 months and imposed a £120 fine. He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £48 surcharge
