Shanklin Cliff Lift has been temporarily taken out of service due to a technical fault, just months after it was closed for more than a month during the busy summer season.
The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that operations at the popular seafront lift were suspended yesterday (Monday), with no indication of when services might resume.
In a statement issued through 1Leisure, the Council said:
“Unfortunately we have had to temporarily suspend the operation of Shanklin lift due to a technical fault.
“We will update you when we have any additional information.
“Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
The latest breakdown comes less than 3 months after the lift finally reopened following a prolonged closure throughout July.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the lift was taken out of action on 26th June, with a specialist replacement component required before services could resume on 29th July.
It is not known whether the latest fault is linked to the previous breakdown.
The Council says it is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, although no timeframe for reopening has been announced.
