Isle of Wight-based organisations are being invited to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to provide activities for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, as part of a new funding opportunity from the Isle of Wight Council.
The funding, available through the Council’s Short Breaks programme, aims to create more opportunities for children and young people aged up to 19 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to enjoy inclusive clubs, groups and activities.
The scheme is designed to give youngsters access to safe, enjoyable and engaging experiences while also providing parents and carers with a break from their caring responsibilities.
Voluntary and community organisations, charities, community interest companies (CICs), businesses and some school providers are eligible to apply.
Projects run by schools must be inclusive and open to all children and young people with disabilities and additional needs across the Isle of Wight, rather than being restricted to pupils attending a particular school.
The Council hopes the grants will encourage a wide variety of activities, including sports clubs, youth groups, arts projects, community activities and childcare provision.
It is hoped that these opportunities will help children and young people develop confidence, independence and wellbeing while allowing families to benefit from additional support.
To help organisations interested in applying, 2 free information sessions are being held at County Hall in Newport later this month.
The first session will take place on 17th October between 10:00-11:00, followed by a second on 21st October between 18:30-19:30.
Both sessions will explain the application process and eligibility criteria, with prospective applicants also given the opportunity to ask questions about the funding.
Those wishing to attend should email [email protected] or telephone 01983 823169.
Applications for the Short Breaks grants must be submitted by 12:00 on 26th October.
