Shanklin Cliff Lift is back in operation after being out of service for the entirety of July, with repairs completed just in time for the start of the school summer holidays.
The popular Isle of Wight attraction – and vital Esplanade link – has reopened after engineers successfully fitted a specialist replacement part yesterday (Wednesday), allowing the lift to return to service following more than a month of disruption.
The cliff lift was first taken out of action on Friday 26th June after developing a technical fault, with engineers initially assessing the problem before identifying that a specialist component was required.
As previously reported by Island Echo, repairs were delayed while the replacement part was sourced, leaving the lift closed throughout July at what is traditionally one of the busiest periods of the tourism season.
The long-awaited part arrived yesterday, enabling an engineer from Temple Lifts to attend and carry out the necessary repairs.
The fault was swiftly rectified and the lift reopened later the same day.
Its return to service comes at a crucial time, with thousands of families expected to visit the Isle of Wight during the school summer holidays over the coming weeks.
The reopening restores a vital link between Shanklin Esplanade and the town above, providing easier access for residents and visitors travelling between the seafront and cliff top.
