A late-night crash in Sandown has led Police to uncover a suspected drugs ring, with 10 men – all from Coventry – detained as part of an investigation into suspected Class A drug supply offences.
The significant drugs probe unfolded after officers were called to a collision involving 2 vehicles on The Broadway just after 23:45 on Saturday (29th August), as previously reported by Island Echo.
The driver of one of the vehicles, thought to be a black Audi, was arrested at the scene for drink driving. 25-year-old Jagroop Singh, of Selworthy Road in Coventry, has since been charged and bailed for being over the limit.
However, that was just the tip of the iceberg for responding officers, who went on to make a bigger discovery whilst searching the vehicles involved.
Several further arrests were subsequently made in relation to suspected drug supply offences.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a pair of 22-year-old men, a pair of 24-year-old men and a 25-year-old man, all from Coventry, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. The 25-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class A drug.
Another 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Coventry, were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to supply a Class A controlled drug.
The investigation continued on Sunday when officers carried out a proactive stop on St John’s Road in Newport in connection with the Sandown incident.
A 19-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old man – again all from Coventry – were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A controlled drug. The 23-year-old was additionally arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance.
All 10 men arrested in connection with suspected drugs offences have been bailed with conditions until 30th November while enquiries continue.
