The Isle of Wight’s home of cricket, Newclose County Cricket Ground, is set to host a variety of celebrities towards the end of the Summer, bringing together cricket fans from across the Island for an important day of charity fundraising.
With household names including former England international Monty Panesar, the charity match promises an exciting afternoon of cricket, entertainment and family fun, with proceeds from every ticket sale helping support the charitable work of Newclose County Cricket Ground.
On the day, Monty Panesar will lead a Celebrity XI to take on an Isle of Wight XI, featuring television personalities, sporting legends and well-known entertainment figures such as Calum Best, Dan Osborne, Phil Turner, Ricky Groves, David Coldwell, Reuben Collins, Steve Springett, Kevin Cooper, John Shepherd, Jay Hutton, Adam Pink, with more to be announced.
The event is set to take place on 5th September, with organisers hoping the event will encourage more people across the Island to join cricket clubs and ensure Island residents have Newclose County Cricket Ground for years to come.
A spokesperson for Newclose County Cricket Ground said:
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome such a fantastic line-up of celebrities to Newclose for what promises to be a brilliant day of cricket and entertainment.
“Most importantly, every ticket sold will help us continue investing in the future of community cricket on the Isle of Wight, creating more opportunities for young people, families and players of all abilities to enjoy the game.”
As the home of Cricket on the Isle of Wight, Newclose provides facilities and programmes for junior, women’s, girls’ and disability cricket, alongside wider community sport, with funds raised from the event helping to improve facilities and expand opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in the game.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Cricket Board added:
“We’re delighted to be supporting the Celebrity Charity Cricket Match at Newclose. Events like this showcase the spirit of cricket while helping us continue our work providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities across the Isle of Wight.
“It’s set to be a fantastic occasion for a fantastic cause.”
The day of Cricket, Entertainment and Community Spirit will see spectators able to enjoy food vendors, hospitality areas and meet some of the celebrity players before play begins.
Gates open at 12:00, with the match getting underway at 13:00, and a mid-innings interval at approximately 14:30, featuring on-field entertainment, a charity raffle and family activities before play resumes.
The event, featuring a wide variety of household names is expected to be one of the Isle of Wight’s standout charity sporting occasions of the year.
