The former home of a renowned Isle of Wight marine equipment company will become a five-bedroom house with a sky lounge.
BCM Wilson Hill has gained consent for a change of use of 41 Birmingham Road in Cowes, currently a redundant office and previously used by Island firm Spinlock for administrative purposes.
External changes, including a balcony replacement and the relocation of the building’s Birmingham Road entrance, have also been approved.
BCM Wilson Hill previously said:
“Spinlock vacated the premises and relocated to the adjacent side of Birmingham Road and into the converted police station.
“Since relocation, the former owner placed no. 41 on the market for a significant period before the current owner purchased it in August 2024.”
Planners said the proposal would re-use vacant premises and this would not result in significant adverse impacts on the retail function, vitality or viability of the town centre.
A total of 3 conditions were included in the permission in the interests of occupants’ safety as well as for planning policy and legal compliance.
