A new ‘high-quality’ and ‘food-led’ independent cafe has opened in Ryde town centre, offering speciality coffee and deep-filled sandwiches by day before serving craft beers and ‘old-style bar tankard cocktails’ in the evening.
BrewsandHops has been granted a premises licence by the Isle of Wight Council for Pier View Brews at 2 Union Street.
The premises was previously occupied by a sandwich shop called Craft.
According to its licensing application, the new business offers a range of beverages including speciality coffee sourced from the outskirts of Winchester and loose-leaf teas based in the New Forest.
An ‘extensive’ food menu includes 2-handed deep-filled sandwiches alongside house-made sweet pies and tray bakes catering for all dietary requirements.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, the venue is set to offer customers a different experience.
BrewsandHops previously told the council:
“In the evenings (Friday and Saturday) the premises will offer a curated, bespoke experience featuring an exclusive selection of imported Belgium and German beers, locally sourced craft beer, cider and old-style bar tankard cocktails.”

The applicant says the operation will be ‘strictly seated’, with full table service provided at all times to create a ‘quiet, relaxed’ environment.
Its premises licence allows for the sale of alcohol from Monday to Sunday between 10:00 and 21:30.
Conditions attached to the licence include the operation of a Challenge 25 proof-of-age policy and licensing training for staff involved in alcohol sales.
Notices must also be displayed at all exits asking customers to respect the needs of local residents by leaving the premises and immediate area quietly.
