2 men are due to appear in court next week following a road rage incident on a rural road on the outskirts of Ryde earlier this year.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police were called at 15:22 on Wednesday 18th March to reports of a road rage incident on Harding Shute, on the outskirts of Ryde.
At the scene, 2 vehicles – a Renault Kadjar and a Ford Transit van – were involved in a damage-only collision.
However, 3 men then exited the van, with 2 of them assaulting the driver of the car.
21-year-old Jackson Brown of The Avenue, Totland Bay, has now been charged with assault by beating and criminal damage. He has been bailed to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18th September.
A 20-year-old from Newport has also been issued a postal requisition to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 15th September to face charges of assault by beating.

A 1979 film called Scum, starring actor Ray Winstone as Carlin. It was an insight into what a Borstal was like. I don’t think Jackson Brown would survive a day.
Reopen Camp Hill Prison. As long as prisoners get fed, watered, clothed and warm in winter, that is enough. None of this ‘Human Rights’ nonsense. Treat them as they have treated others. Lock them up.

Sadly, it’s not just the Island; it is everywhere.
I struggle to understand how a grown-up man nowadays is seen walking around either like a feral dog or an ape (remember Planet of the Apes), talking as if he were a gangsta from the Bronx.
How did Society get like this?
Firstly, the criminal justice system is too soft; punishment is often two-tiered. Secondly, the benefits system, which is supposed to assist those in hardship, has ended up similar to wearing a tag — a badge of honour.
People who are not registered as unable to work due to long-term health conditions should be required to volunteer 25 hours per week. Such as cleaning the shit from the streets. Clearing drainage to avoid blockage. Cleaning shop windows. Learn a new skill, such as exterior painting and decorating, to keep our towns looking presentable. If they don’t complete 25 hours a week, then their benefits are stopped.
The first thing visitors see as they come off the catamaran and proceed down Ryde Pier is Ryde Esplanade. When was the last time the station’s canopy and exterior structure were repainted? It looks tatty; it needs someone to rub down the Victorian woodwork and apply new paint.
Not so long ago, some of us remember our parents and grandparents telling us that, back then, if you didn’t go to work, you didn’t have any money. No money, and your family starved. It was a hand-to-mouth existence.
Society has got it wrong. It rewards those who don’t want to work or who arrive illegally, and punishes those who are working by imposing higher taxes, leaving them with less disposable income.
