A 35-year-old man charged with a string of serious offences following an alleged hammer attack in Ryde will no longer face trial, after both complainants withdrew their evidence.
David Patrick Marsh, of Warwick Street in Ryde, was charged with wounding with intent, attempted wounding with intent, wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and assault by beating back in April. The charges relate to an incident during the same month.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a large Police presence descended on Warwick Street, with officers surrounding a property on all sides before forcing entry.
With a police drone hovering overhead, 1 officer climbed a ladder to gain a vantage point into the rear garden as the operation unfolded.
Officers then used the ‘big red key’ to smash through a panel at the bottom of the front door, allowing them to climb through and detain Marsh.
The 35-year-old had been on remand since his arrest.
A hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday (4th September) heard how both complainants in the case had withdrawn their support for the prosecution, despite a trial date being set for 12th October.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) therefore offered no evidence.
Miss Recorder White agreed that the case be dismissed.
