A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an alleged serious assault in Ryde last night (Sunday).
It was shortly before 15:00 this afternoon (Monday) that a large Police presence was seen at Warwick Street in the town, where officers surrounded a property on all sides before forcing entry.
With the police drone deployed and hovering overhead, 1 officer climbed a ladder to gain a vantage point into the rear garden.
The ‘big red key’ was then used by officers to gain entry into the property, putting through a panel on the bottom of the door, allowing them to climb through.
A number of officers were seen searching in and around the town centre in the hour before the arrest took place.
It follows the alleged serious assault of a 20-year-old man on The Strand in Ryde shortly before 21:00 last night.
Island Echo understands that the victim was attacked with a hammer, resulting in him being hospitalised.
The suspect, a 35-year-old male, remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – 35-year-old David Marsh has been charged with numerous offences.
