Scottish culture will take centre stage on the Isle of Wight later this month as the Highland Gathering returns to GG’s on Staplers Road, Newport, promising a packed day of music, entertainment and family-friendly activities in aid of local charity Aspire.
The popular event will take place on Sunday 26th July, with visitors invited to enjoy a celebration of Scottish heritage featuring live music, traditional dancing, falconry displays and a host of interactive attractions.
Five pipe bands from across the south are set to perform throughout the day, alongside the Wight Hot Pipes and The Crew on the main stage. Traditional Scottish fiddlers and Highland dancers will also provide entertainment.
Families can get involved with a range of arena activities, including mini caber tossing and haggis hurling, while historical re-enactment group the 42nd Royal Highland Regiment – The Black Watch will also be in attendance.
Scottish food and drink will be available throughout the event, with whisky tasting sessions giving visitors the opportunity to sample a selection of Scotland’s best-known spirits.
This year’s gathering will also support Isle of Wight charity Aspire, with organisers hoping the event will raise funds while bringing the community together for a day of entertainment.
