A historic building in Ryde Town Centre will be home to 2 new apartments – above an Indian restaurant.
Mr S. Miah has won planning and listed building consent for a change of use of the first and second floors above Ryde Tandoori at 45 Union Street, a Grade II 19th century property, into 2 flats.
The building is currently used for the restaurant over all three of its storeys.
Approved residential units will have a kitchen, dining and living area as well as a bathroom.
Two double bedrooms are planned for flat one, which will be across the first and second floors, and the second apartment will have a single double bedroom.
Mr Miah’s agent, Dean Parkman architecture, previously told the Isle of Wight Council:
“The proposed development will result in greater utilisation of excessive restaurant and staffroom facilities space.
“The existing ground floor commercial use will remain without any modifications/change to the historic principal façade.

Planners included 5 conditions in the permission for the protection of heritage and local amenity as well as planning policy and legal compliance.
