The Codfather has returned to serve customers this Summer with a new pop-up takeaway following the devastating fire that forced the closure of its Ryde premises earlier this year.
The popular fish and chip shop has teamed up with the Sunrise Hotel on Hope Road, Shanklin, where it has begun serving its renowned fish and chips while work continues to rebuild its Esplanade restaurant.
The family-run business, which has been serving the Isle of Wight for more than 25 years, was forced to close after a serious fire broke out at the Ryde premises on the morning of 24th May.
As previously reported by Island Echo, firefighters from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin were called to the blaze at around 09:45. The fire, which started in the commercial premises before spreading to the flat above, was caused by a deep-fat fryer. Thankfully, no one was injured and surrounding properties were safely evacuated.
Owner Harrison Booth has thanked customers for their support in the weeks since the fire.
Harrison Booth, owner of The Codfather, has said:
“The fire was heartbreaking for everyone involved, but the support we’ve had from the community has meant the world to us.
“We’re really excited to be back serving customers again in Shanklin this summer and can’t wait to see some familiar faces.”
The temporary takeaway will operate from the Sunrise Hotel, serving customers daily between 16:00 and 20:00.
A delivery service will also be available during the same hours to customers in Shanklin, Sandown, Lake, Brading, Bembridge and Ventnor.
The Codfather says the Shanklin pop-up marks the next step in its recovery as it looks ahead to reopening its Ryde premises once rebuilding work has been completed.
