Isle of Wight cricketers Kevin Cooper and Freddie Gurney made match-winning contributions as Hampshire defeated Lancashire by 117 runs to win the National D40 cricket final.
The Island duo represented Hampshire in the national final at Kidderminster Cricket Club on Sunday (24th August), which brought together the winners of the northern and southern leagues.
Hampshire had secured their place in the showpiece after competing against Sussex, Middlesex, Essex and Surrey during the season.
Batting first against Lancashire, Hampshire posted an imposing total of 284, with Cooper producing a superb unbeaten innings of 156.
Gurney also reached a half-century, with the pair combining for a crucial 145-run partnership which helped put Hampshire firmly in control.
Lancashire were then bowled out for 167, with Gurney making another major contribution by taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs from his 7 overs.
The result secured a comprehensive 117-run victory for Hampshire and the National D40 title, with both Cooper and Gurney having played significant roles in the team’s success throughout the season.
