Those considering making the switch to an electric vehicle or investing in greener home energy technology will have the chance to explore the latest innovations when the Going Electric Show returns to Newport later this month.
The free-to-enter event will take place at Newport Quay and Riverside on 19th July between 10:00 and 16:00, bringing together vehicle manufacturers, energy specialists and sustainability organisations.
Visitors will be able to view more than 40 new electric vehicles from 15 different brands, showcased by local dealerships Leslies and Premier Motors, Harwoods, Staddlestones, Central Garage and Van Mossel Esplanade.
The display will include everything from luxury models to more affordable cars suited to everyday life on the Isle of Wight.
Alongside the vehicles, several exhibitors will be showcasing home energy solutions, including solar panels, battery storage and heat pumps. Local companies, Island Renewables, Engenius and Solar and Renewable Installations Ltd will all be attending.
They will be joined by Octopus Energy, which will be providing information on its energy tariffs, alongside EVO Driver Training, OGO Electrical, MB Electrical EV and PolySolar, which will be exhibiting its range of flexible and transparent solar technology.
Green IW will also be on hand to offer advice on energy efficiency and available grants, while Keert and CycleWight will be promoting cargo bike deliveries and cycling across the Isle of Wight.
A programme of expert panel discussions, sponsored by Red Funnel, will run throughout the day.
The first session will explore commercial transport, with Simon Moye from Southern Vectis discussing the transition to electric buses, Anthony Molley outlining the electrification of the Co-op’s delivery fleet and Matt Whitaker, founder of Keert, speaking about the Isle of Wight’s cargo bike delivery service.
A second discussion will focus on the personal electric vehicle market, featuring Daniel Hillier-Mears from Premier Motors and Louis Vanassche from Leslies.
The final panel will look at the future of energy in homes, communities and beyond, with contributions from Joe Redston, Colm Watling of Green IW and Stephen Cockett from Wight Community Energy.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day from the Riverside Centre café, while Plaza Ices will also be serving visitors from its eco-friendly ice cream van.
Free parking will be available at County Hall and Seaclose car park, with disabled parking provided at the Riverside Centre.
The Going Electric Show is supported by Southern Vectis, the Co-op and Red Funnel.
