Police and paramedics are responding to a crash involving at least 2 cars and a motorcycle on Middle Road this evening (Thursday).
It was shortly before 19:30 that emergency services were alerted to the incident, which has occurred on one of the main roads connecting Newport to the West Wight, near Tapnell.
Island Echo understands 2 cars have collided head-on, with a motorcycle off the road and in a hedge.
The crash scene is on the Newport-bound carriageway on the Freshwater side of Tapnell.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being, diverting via Military Road or Yarmouth Road.

Vehicles only collide head on if one of the vehicles is
on the wrong side of the road.
Due to there be no speed cameras on island roads vehicles
tailgate and get impatient even when the vehicle is front of
them is driving at the legal limit for the road they are on.
WHY WHY WHY DO VEHICLES OVERTAKE IN DANGEROUS
LOCATIONS AND BLIND BENDS.
Surely it is time for the SO CALLED AUTHORITIES TO MAKE
OUR ROADS SAFE FOR “EVERYONE” TO USE THEM.
I dread driving from Godshill to Whitwell being the Roads
get narrow and NUMPTIES DRIVE WAY TOO FAST!
Now is the time for islandwide speed Camera’s
it’s beyond a joke.
20mph is plenty. If it is rolled out islandwide
then let it be.
Safety is imperative
If that’s how you feel sell your car stay home and don’t block up road for other people
So you are another lawless island numpty who
thinks it is ok to overtake vehicles by not only risking
your life and your passengers lives but law abiding vehicles
travelling on the opposite / correct side of the road
lives too.
IDIOT!
Proves my point ONCE A NUMPTY ALWAYS A NUMPTY!
Numpties cannot be educated.
If morons want to end their lives by taking a chance by
driving on the wrong side of the road putting other motorists
lives at risk THEY NEED BANNING FROM DRIVING FOR LIFE.
Now this is a burden on the struggling NHS, it is also time
consuming for the Emergency services who have better
things to do than clearing up after a numpty.
IT IS TIME FOR ISLANDWIDE CCTV AND SPEED CAMERA’S
NOT TO MENTION ROAD SIGNS THAT STATE DO NOT
OVERTAKE.
MANY OF THE ISLAND ROADS ARE NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR
2 VEHICLES AS IT IS.
OVER THE YEARS VEHICLES ARE MUCH WIDER THAN IN THE
OLD DAYS.
TIME TO TAX THE LARGE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD.
Just imagine if ALL island vehicles were FIAT 500 size.
There would be plenty of parking for EVERYONE,
ROADS WOULD BE MUCH SAFER ETC ETC
Time for the local MPs and Council Leaders and
Highways folk to go around the island in vehicles and
see for themselves our UNSAFE Island Roads are!!
It will be an eye opener.
Seriously? Don’t you have better things to do? While I agree that most island drivers clearly think passing their test means they’re equipped for a lifetime of driving without any further training or education, there are plenty of car enthusiasts who can not only drive, but are also considerate to other motorists.
They’re not all youngsters either, a friend in her eighties loves her Alfa and drives it properly!
I am talking about the selfish B’stards who put
other peoples lives at risk.
THEY MIGHT BE THE MINORITY, BUT THERE SURE
ARE A LOT OF LAWLESS DANGEROUS FCUKERS ON OUR
ROADS WHO NEED TO FACE THE FULL FORCE OF THE LAW.
LIFETIME BANS IF NECESSARY
I’m just wondering if you know all the details and facts about the crash or are you just assuming that it went like that? If so we’d all appreciate if you kept your opinions to yourself until the facts come to light. Bloody idiot.
I know nothing about this crash but I am talking
about crashes in general
HOW DO HEAD ON CRASHES HAPPEN IF VEHICLES ARE ON THE CORRECT SISE OF THE ROAD?????
WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT BUMPER CARS ON SANDOWN PIER F.F.S
You sound like another Numpty, so many of you
don’t like to hear the truth!
Bless you.
Maybe it is time for the Island to step up, get ahead of the game and BAN cars from the Isle of Wight,
Or have all Island cars fitted with a speed limiter of up to 55mph..
Bikes too..
People need to be taught roads are not race tracks..higher fines for speeding, driving bands starting at five years.., because the measly fines and a couple of points to these speeders, is useless.. 10 points for speeding and five year + ban + £ fines starting at !000.00
