A team of racing camels will make the unusual journey across the Solent by ferry this week before taking centre stage at this year’s Royal Isle of Wight County Show.
Known as the ships of the desert, the camels from Warwickshire-based Joseph’s Amazing Camels will travel with Wightlink before entertaining thousands of visitors at the County Showground in Northwood on Friday (11th July) and Saturday (12th July).
The camel racing team is expected to be one of the standout attractions of the 2-day event, with the animals racing around the main arena in front of the crowds.
The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is one of the Isle of Wight’s best-loved annual events, celebrating the Island’s rural heritage and community.
Wightlink has joined NFU Mutual Isle of Wight in sponsoring the attraction, which is being brought to the show by Joseph’s Amazing Camels – the UK’s leading camel hire provider. The company supplies camels for films, television productions and events across the country.
Visitors can also enjoy a host of other attractions including giant tortoises, the Shetland Pony Grand National, a rodeo bull ride, vintage tractors, a fun dog show, livestock classes, a funfair, a food market and craft stalls.
Graham Biss, Royal Isle of Wight County Show chairman, has said:
“We are thrilled that the show goes from strength to strength, and we are so excited to welcome Joseph’s Amazing Camels this year.
“We are so grateful to NFU Mutual and Wightlink for their support.”
Sam Woodman, Wightlink Partnerships Marketing Manager, has said:
“The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is a pillar of the Island’s social calendar.
“We have always been proud to support it and are delighted to sponsor the camel team who will be such a highlight this year.”
