Nearly 100 members of Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club took part in this year’s Joint Captains’ Day, enjoying a day of competitive golf and fundraising in support of a local charity.
A total of 95 members competed in a cross-country Texas scramble last Sunday (5th July), with players benefiting from glorious sunshine and ideal golfing conditions throughout the day.
To keep participants refreshed, drinks and snacks were provided on the course before members returned to the clubhouse to enjoy sandwiches and chips following the competition.
There were joint winners in the men’s team event, with Peter Long, Dave Wilson, Fred Cooper and Paul Hawkins sharing top honours alongside Mitch Young, Ben Nicholls, Wes Mawer and Conner Knight.
The mixed/ladies team competition was won by Philip Nye, Sarah Nye, Ron Elliott and Kathy Elliott.
A raffle was also held during the event in aid of the captains’ chosen charity, Alzheimer Café Isle of Wight.
