Year 5 pupils from St Blasius C of E Primary Academy have been given a very special opportunity to help celebrate the natural world at Naturezones in Blackwater.
Naturezones is a small charitable organisation dedicated to bringing wildlife education to people of all ages. Through its fascinating collection of animals, hands-on experiences and educational programmes, the centre inspires visitors to learn more about the importance of caring for the environment and the creatures that share our planet.
As part of an exciting new project, pupils from St Blasius have been invited to contribute to a poetry trail being established at the centre.
The young writers have created thoughtful and imaginative haikus, inspired by the beauty of nature and the wildlife they have encountered. These short but powerful poems capture moments of wonder, from fluttering butterflies and buzzing insects to woodland habitats and colourful creatures.
The project did not stop at poetry. Alongside their haikus, the children also produced beautiful pieces of artwork to accompany the trail. Their illustrations add colour and creativity, helping to bring each poem to life and encouraging visitors to pause, reflect and appreciate the natural world around them.
Staff at the school have been incredibly proud of the pupils’ enthusiasm and creativity throughout the project. It has provided a wonderful opportunity for children to combine their learning in English and Art while also developing a deeper appreciation for nature and conservation.
Visitors to Naturezones will soon be able to enjoy the poetry trail, discovering the pupils’ work as they explore the centre. For the children of Year 5, it is a fantastic honour to know that their poems and artwork will become part of a lasting feature that can be enjoyed by families, schools and wildlife enthusiasts for years to come.
