Pupils from Haylands Primary School in Ryde have been recognised at this year’s Royal Isle of Wight County Show after winning the Primary Participation Award for a display celebrating 125 years of Isle of Wight heritage.
Year 3A, taught by Miss Driver, took part in the Primary School Display at the annual event, which was held earlier this month on 11th and 12th July.
The class chose to celebrate the Island’s rich history by creating an oak tree timeline, with each pupil designing an individual leaf representing a significant event or change from the past 125 years.
After carrying out their own research using computers, the children produced a display highlighting many of the people, places, landmarks and events that have helped shape the Isle of Wight over the last century and a quarter.
Their efforts were rewarded with the Primary Participation Award, which was collected on behalf of the school by Mrs Keeble during the County Show on Saturday.
The school has praised Miss Driver, Mrs Rhodes and the pupils in Class 3A for their hard work, creativity and dedication in producing the award-winning display.
The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is an annual celebration of the Island’s rural heritage, agriculture, food, education and community, attracting exhibitors, schools and visitors from across the Isle of Wight.
