George Foreman claimed the title of Men’s Club Champion at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club after edging a fiercely contested championship that attracted 104 competitors.
Played over the weekend of 11th and 12th July, the 36-hole event produced a dramatic finish, with Foreman carding a gross score of 143 to win the championship by a single shot from Nat Riddett, who finished on 144.
As well as lifting the club’s most prestigious men’s title, Foreman also secured the Hill Quaish Trophy for the leading over-55 player, finishing six shots clear of Adrian Mogg.
Several other trophies were decided across the weekend.
In the Peter Hammond Cup, awarded for the best nett score over Saturday’s 18 holes, Mark Trueman produced an excellent round of nett 63 to take victory ahead of Robert Burrows on nett 68.
Sunday’s Melville Hall Cup went to Dave Wilson, whose nett 66 was enough to finish one shot ahead of Brian Wakefield on nett 67.
The Roger Matthews Salver, awarded for the best 36-hole nett score, was won by Adrian Mogg with an impressive nett total of 135. Robert Burrows finished runner-up on 140, capping a consistent weekend in which he featured prominently across the competitions.
