Steam power, explosive stunt acts and traditional fairground fun will take over Havenstreet this August Bank Holiday weekend as the 51st Island Steam Fair Extravaganza returns – with kids going free.
The Isle of Wight Steam Railway’s flagship summer event will return for 4 days from Friday (28th August) to Monday (31st August), bringing together historic engineering, arena entertainment and traditional carnival attractions.
Now in its 51st year, the Island Steam Fair Extravaganza will see Havenstreet Station transformed for one of the railway’s biggest events of the year.
There will be plenty of action in the main arena, where visitors can expect explosive stunt acts, heavy traction engines and the delightfully chaotic ‘Dog and Duck’ displays.
Away from the arena, some serious steam power will be on show, with visitors able to get up close to historic road rollers and impressive showman’s engines.
A sprawling display of classic cars, military vehicles, motorbikes and vintage tractors will add even more historic machinery to the event.
Those looking for a taste of traditional fairground nostalgia can take a spin on the gallopers or try their hand at old-school favourites including the shooting gallery and coconut shys.
Unlimited steam train rides will also be available, giving families the chance to sit back and enjoy a journey through the Isle of Wight countryside during their visit.
Live bands will provide entertainment on the Music Stage throughout the extravaganza, while a dedicated real ale bar and local food stalls will keep visitors refreshed.
The railway’s indoor Train Story Discovery Centre will also be open, offering an interactive journey through 150 years of railway history.
With everything from roaring traction engines and arena thrills to steam trains and traditional fairground attractions, organisers are promising a packed August Bank Holiday experience for all ages.
Better still for families watching the cost of a Bank Holiday day out, kids go free at this year’s event.
The 51st Island Steam Fair Extravaganza takes place at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet from Friday (28th August) until Monday (31st August).
