A Motor Boat that is understood to have been travelling towards Bembridge at around 30 knots has run aground at the notorious Bembridge ledge this evening (Tuesday).
The vessel, which is believed to have been carrying a family enjoying a day out at sea, was first witnessed by crew at Bembridge National Coastwatch Station at 17:50.
Crews from the nearby Bembridge Lifeboat Station were tasked to the scene on the ledge just in front of the Crab and Lobster pub, where it is alleged that passengers were ejected.
Island Echo believes that the vessel, which is around 22 metres, had around 5 people onboard who have since walked ashore.
With the vessel leaning quite significantly to one side, the initial call was made in fear of the worst, with Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams deployed.
As well as this, a number of personnel from the Isle of Wight ambulance service arrived on scene shortly after the Mayday call came in to assess any injuries that may have occurred.
At this time, it is unclear whether any injuries have been sustained.
