Islanders with financial, commercial or strategic leadership experience are being encouraged to help shape the future of Vectis Housing Association as the organisation searches for new voluntary Board members.
The independent housing association, which operates exclusively on the Isle of Wight and provides more than 500 homes, has launched its latest recruitment campaign as part of longer-term succession planning.
Vectis is particularly interested in hearing from people with financial, commercial or strategic leadership experience, ideally gained within commercial or regulated organisations.
Previous Board experience is not essential; however, applicants from a broad range of professional backgrounds are encouraged to put themselves forward.
An understanding of the Isle of Wight, its economy, communities and local stakeholders would be welcomed.
Applicants do not have to live on the Island, but Vectis says retaining strong local knowledge and its Island identity is important.
Graham Cooper, Chair of Vectis Housing Association, has said:
“Vectis is in a strong position and this is very much about planning ahead. Good Boards need a mixture of skills, experience, backgrounds and perspectives, and we want to make sure that we continue to have that around the table as the organisation develops.
“We’re particularly interested in people with strong financial, commercial or strategic experience, but we’re not simply looking for people who have sat on Boards before. Sound judgement, curiosity, the ability to ask the right questions and a genuine interest in what Vectis does for the Island are every bit as important.
“As a locally based housing association, retaining a real understanding of the Isle of Wight and the communities we serve matters enormously to us. I’d particularly encourage someone who may never previously have considered a Board position to take a look.
“You don’t need a housing background or an impressive list of non-executive appointments to make a valuable contribution.”
The positions are voluntary and unpaid, although reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.
The Board normally meets 6 times a year, generally on Wednesday mornings, with members also taking part in other governance activities.
Face-to-face participation is preferred, although remote attendance can be accommodated where appropriate. Successful applicants will also receive an induction covering the organisation and their Board responsibilities.
Those interested are being asked to submit a current CV alongside a short note outlining why they want to join, the skills, experience or perspective they could bring and their availability.
Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to meet representatives from the Association as part of the recruitment process.
