Households across the Isle of Wight can expect a new waste collection calendar to drop through the letterbox soon, alongside new stickers which are being distributed to help rid the ‘Amey’ brand from wheelie bins.
The existing calendar expires this week, which has left Islanders questioning when the replacement calendar – covering 2023/24 – will arrive.
It has been confirmed by the Isle of Wight Council that distribution of the calendars to all 70,000 properties is to begin shortly, although it is unclear if they will arrive in time for your next collection.
Islanders will also be receiving a number of new stickers to place on wheelie bins, as part of an image rebrand to get rid of the Amey name from bins, vehicles and signage.
The Isle of Wight Council works with its service provider to provide waste management services for the Island. Up until recently this has been Amey, but the corporate ownership recently changed under Ferrovial. Although the name has changed, the same service is being delivered.
As part of this change, the Council is calling on the Isle of Wight community to help transition away from Amey. Over the next 6 months, the Council will be working to remove the Amey logo from sites, vehicles and bins.
Instead of replacing waste receptacles, the Council is asking you to place a sticker on your bins and food caddies, covering only the Amey logo. This will reduce waste by not disposing of current bins, prevent unnecessary carbon emissions from delivering new bins and stops producing more unwanted plastic into the environment.
Based on customer satisfaction surveys, the Council has taken the decision to incorporate words and pictures on the stickers to help households identify what goes in each bin.
If you have reusable sacks, they will be replaced with council branded ones by the end of the year or when your sacks need replacing. Until then, continue to use the ones you have. However, those with reusable sacks will also receive stickers for general and recycling waste. As you can’t stick these to your gull sacks you can use these as a visual guide for all the family by using them inside your home to label internal recycling and waste bins.
If you are on the assisted collection service; use a communal bin store or are a trade waste customer, you do not need to do anything – the Council will be placing stickers on your waste receptacles for you.
Natasha Dix, strategic manager for environment and waste, says:
“It’s an environmentally friendly solution to this problem and allows Islanders to work with us to achieve the council’s Mission Zero sustainability goals.
“We hope residents will support our waste partners in this rebranding exercise. As Islanders, we have embraced recycling brilliantly. We currently divert more than 97 per cent of our waste from landfill.”
Going forward, the partnership between the council and the service provider will be known simply as Isle of Wight Council Waste Services.

Congratulations Isle of Wight Council at finding yet another scheme to waste the tax payers money. Well done. If anyone should be paying for the new stickers it should be the Feral Company, not the tax payer.

And will the Council throw their toys out of the pram if we bin their stickers? They will probably refuse to empty the bin!

Otherwise the bins stay as they are.
I mean the Council thinks charging ludicrous amounts to rent a 3x8m patch of tarmac for a couple of hours is fair then so is charging them to do actual work.
If they don’t want to pay, they can spin on it.

Rather than waste money on stickers, it would be a better idea if the workers
who collect the rubbish did not leave such a mess behind after they have emptied the
Bins, also if they could place the bins back where they collected them from
rather than leave them all over the place blocking walkways and driveways.
A decrease in Council tax bills for all Households would be a better idea.
How about a sticker for the Floating Bridge? Could do with a rebrand to help with the cover-up.
I suggest that we put all off the stickers on the council offices. Ludicrous and idiotic waste of money. They can stick their stickers up where the sun don’t shine.
Is the island so full of idiots that we need leading by the nose? I am appalled at the utter waste of money on STICKERS!
